I also am diggin' on proenza schouler, marc jacobs, donna karan, and calvin klein menswear (mostly for the production).
lastly, I thought this was funny from giles deacon:

reminds me of 'eagle vs. shark'

your mom circa 1966
Ever since my trip to the laundromat last week I've been trying to pinpoint the style of a certain woman I saw. Fitted denim shirt, blond bouffant, red lips, highwaisted jeans, keds. So cool, I could just picture here bringing the cherry pie to the picnic, drinking a sloe gin fizz, shooting pop cans with a BB gun, and talking about her cats mopsy and elvis.
First I was thinking along the lines of 'steel magnolia's' 'now and then' and the mom in 'hope floats'.
Then ms. mama dirty allured me into the idea of "sixties mom". Although it's not exactly what I was thinking the results are great and I'm really feeling these ladies as my style icons of 2009:

movies movies movies
since I've started my love affair with netflix, I've gotten a lot of style inspirations from various characters in movies:
FACTORY GIRL - the story of edie sedgwick: socialite, friend to andy warhol, and lover of bob dylan. Although I didn't really love this movie, I thought edie's fashion was ill. black tights, huge dangley earrings, thick black eye liner. I've always had a thing for late 50's early 60's fashion, but I'm like ABSOLUTELY FREAKING OUT about how great it is now. Behold the real edie:

THE GRADUATE - listed in every cinematicians top 100 films. Dustin Hoffman stars as an old-money ivy league all-star grad home from school and lost in life. The movie follows him as he floats through summer, an affair with the wife of his fathers business partner, and ultimately an epic chase to win the heart of elaine, daughter of said business partner. Although the fashion in this movie isn't entirely noteworthy, elaine's suede trench has got me feenin'. above all, the general aesthetic of the film is just breathtaking:

sedmikrasky - or daisies in english, is a czech surrealist film about 2 sisters who see that the world has gone bad, and decide to go bad with it. It's a story of binging and purging, creating and destroying, excess and nothingness. Ultimately it's a political commentary, but the imagery belongs in the MoMA:

Dear Santa,

I would like a raiders jacket and a big gold chain for Christmas. I've been a good girl. You don't like how I'm livin'? well fuck you.

I'm not one for in your face logos... nor do I really care about Louis Vuitton... but these tights are really pretty. I want them, is that ok?

POMD?
I bought pants from dots the other day. Basically they're thick leggings, but they're tailored like jeans... pockets and all... so they're like tight-solid-color-stretch-jeans-pants-amazingness. Tights as pants faux pas? Not this time.
They're fucking great and I want to find more. After extensive research I discovered the proper name for this kind of pant may be "riding pants" or "breeches". Here's a pair by rag and bone:

Anyways, they're stupid expensive, as are all riding pants I've seen thus far. But I predict by this time next fall everyone will be shopping at their nearest equestrian boutique for a pair of these. It's that necessary.
Pants of my dreams? you bet your full seated breeches.
